    • The Michigan Alcohol Improvement Network (MAIN) is a specialty clinic that takes an unprecedented approach to treating patients with alcohol liver disease.

    Patients not only receive liver care, but addiction treatment and psychatric care using the behavioral health collaborative care model, all in one office. This multidisciplinary clinic features a core team of: 

    • Hepatologist (liver disease physician)
    • Psychiatrist
    • Nurse
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker

    Our Approach

    We utilize the behavioral health collaborative care model, which integrates mental health services directly into your primary care.

    Services

    Patients seen in the clinic will first meet with the hepatologist to discuss symptoms, medications, how the liver recovers with alcohol abstinence, and any additional liver care needed. Next patients will meet with the psychiatrist to review drinking history, psychiatric history, environmental factors and stressors. The clinic is held in the Taubman Center at University Hospital in Ann Arbor.

    The types of ALD treated in the clinic include: 

    • Alcohol Associated Hepatitis
    • Alcohol Related Cirrhosis
    • Alcohol Related Steatohepatitis (ASH)
    • Metabolic Alcohol Liver Disease

    The clinic currently accepts referrals only for patients diagnosed with alcohol-associated hepatitis (AAH) and alcohol-related cirrhosis (ALD cirrhosis), including those with metabolic ALD and alcohol-related steatohepatitis. Please note that we do not accept referrals for non-cirrhotic patients or those without AAH.
