The Real Estate Department reports through Central Finance to the CFO of Michigan Medicine, managing real estate and leasing across the state for Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan Health-West, and University of Michigan-Sparrow. The department aligns real estate decisions with the institution's mission, vision, and core values.
About Real Estate
The Real Estate Department manages all leased locations for Michigan Medicine, overseeing a diverse portfolio of medical office, administrative office, and industrial spaces totaling approximately 12 million square feet across 200 locations statewide. The department handles all leased space needs, including initiation, negotiation, amendment, extension, enforcement, financial transactions, and overall lease administration. It also oversees Michigan Medicine’s owned real estate assets, providing strategic oversight and leading real estate acquisitions and dispositions.
The team partners with leadership on comprehensive real estate strategy, offering in-depth financial analyses and data-driven insights to support site selection, acquisition, and disposition decisions. Additionally, the Real Estate Department addresses day-to-day building and maintenance concerns and serves as the primary liaison between landlords and Michigan Medicine’s support service departments.
