About

Dr. Charles (Charlie) Reuland is the Chief Operations Integration Officer at U-M Health. In this capacity, he is accountable for all aspects of operations across the clinical enterprise, which includes direct responsibility for the University Hospital, Frankel Cardiovascular Center, the Children & Women’s Hospital, and all Ambulatory Care Units, as well as Ancillary Services and Pharmacy Operations. His oversight also involves U-M Health’s statewide network of care, including oversight of the U-M Health Integration Management Office and its integration activities with UM Health-West and UM Health-Sparrow, as well as other partners/affiliates of UM-Health, including Trinity and MyMichigan Health systems. 

Prior to this position, Dr. Reuland served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also served as Chief Operating Officer at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the second largest hospital in the Johns Hopkins Health System, from 2007 through 2016. At Johns Hopkins, he took on several other leadership roles, including Chief Administrative Officer for the Department of Medicine. His experience also includes Managed Care Contracting, Social Work and Patient Relations.   

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and earned both a master’s and doctoral degree in health, policy and management from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.    

Dr. Reuland is an executive sponsor of the Michigan Medicine Administrative Fellowship program, has served as a consultant to major academic medical centers, authored and reviewed numerous publications, and has actively served on leadership committees for the Maryland Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board. Dr. Reuland is currently completing his service as the immediate past-Chair of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Central Maryland.
