The Need

Epilepsy is one of the most common and serious neurologic conditions among children, with roughly 450,000 cases in Americans under 17 years old.

Epilepsy is a general term for a broad spectrum of brain disorders that cause recurrent, unprovoked seizures. A seizure is an electrical disturbance in the brain that causes temporary changes in movement, awareness, sensation, behavior, thinking, or other bodily functions.

In addition to unpredictable and disruptive seizures, epilepsy can also impact physical, cognitive, and mental health in a variety of ways.

The severity, frequency, and types of seizures can vary widely among individuals, with symptoms that include convulsions, sensory disturbances, and loss of consciousness. All too often, epilepsy is a persistent challenge in the daily lives of children and their families, impacting their sense of security and goals for the future.

The Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Program at University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital is a leader in advancing knowledge, treatments, and care for children with epilepsy. We invite you to join us.

Calming the Storm of Epilepsy for the Little Victors

With the help of dedicated donors, sponsors, patients, families, and other community members, the Mott Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Program is raising much-needed funding and awareness through our Calming the Storm of Epilepsy campaign.

Proceeds from Calming the Storm of Epilepsy benefit care services, basic and clinical research, and education and support resources for patients and families. The campaign is a year-round effort, with a big push during National Epilepsy Awareness Month in November.

Your support can advance promising research and treatments that can help young epilepsy patients live their best lives. It can also strengthen the crucial resources that many families need to navigate the daily challenges their child will face.
