About This Event

Katie Mongoven graduated with a BFA from U-M Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design in 2017. Until We Meet Again is a collection of hand-dyed and hand-stitched embroideries of Mongoven’s work that try to make sense of life’s unorthodox turns by bridging past and present. Cotton and silk appear almost exclusively in her work and are lead crops of the Jiangxi province in China where she was born, abandoned, and adopted from.

Mongoven’s first given name, Qiu lián, means Autumn Lotus, and her childhood was filled with North American magnolia blossoms and Chinese kumquats. Materials-based and process-driven, her embroideries combine nature and nurture, here and there, and fate and free will.
