Support Programs for Seniors

Six U-M Health Department of Community Health Services Programs that serve older adults

Big Hearts for Seniors branding

Established in 2006, Big Hearts for Seniors (BHS) is an annual fundraising event that benefits six programs within the University of Michigan Health Department of Community Health Services which provide a variety of mission-critical services to older adults in our community.

The beneficiaries include Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels, Housing Bureau for Seniors, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Silver Club Memory Programs, Turner African American Services Council, and Turner Senior Wellness Program.

Big Hearts for Seniors began as a grassroots collaboration between staff and volunteers. Volunteers continue to be integral to fundraising and awareness efforts as they participate in committees including sponsorship, silent auction, and marketing. To date (2006-2024), Big Hearts for Seniors has raised nearly $1,000,000 to support the nutritional, social, housing, and educational needs of older adults.
