See the Big House and save a life during University of Michigan donor event

Dance-off with Detroit Tigers Paws and autograph signing by football standout Jarret Irons

Join one of the largest single-day blood drives on the University of Michigan campus and register as an organ and tissue donor during Be a Hero at the Big House, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 10, 2019.

High above the University of Michigan football field in the Jack Roth Stadium club, the event, hosted by Wolverines for Life and others, is the half-way mark in the 38th annual American Red Cross  Blood Battle against Ohio State University.

Jarret Irons, a Wolverine linebacker from 1993-96, and former term captain, will sign autographs 11 a.m.-1 p.m. He was named a consensus All-American during the 1996 season and is second in Michigan history in career tackles.

With games, giveaways, food and a mascot dance-off with Detroit Tigers Paws, the event is a celebration of life-saving donation.

The community is invited to roll up its sleeve and give blood with the American Red Cross during Blood Battle between  Michigan and OSU. Nearly 20 blood drives will be held on the Ann Arbor campus during the three-week event Oct. 29-Nov. 27.

This year each school seeks a goal of 2,300 donations, for a total of 4,800 blood donations combined.

Blood Battle has been held the first weeks of November leading up to the day the schools face-off on the football field every year since 1981, generating thousands of donations for patients in need of blood.

The competition motivates fans to donate to boost the blood supply as the busy holiday season approaches and donations tend to decline.
