Michigan Medicine is proud to announce a new partnership with Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels (YMOW)

Individuals served by YMOW now receive meals planned and prepared by healthcare professionals from Michigan Medicine.

Michigan Medicine has been preparing meals for clients of Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels since 1976. Alison Foreman, executive director of YMOW, said she is excited that Ypsilanti clients will now receive the same delicious, high-quality meals as their neighbors to the west.

“We are thrilled to partner with Michigan Medicine to provide the homebound residents of Ypsilanti high-quality, tasty and nutritious meals,” Foreman said. “Our clients in Ypsilanti will now enjoy the same meals that clients of Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels have enjoyed for decades.”

Foreman said many clients will also enjoy the added option of a vegetarian meal. Along with a daily hot meal and a chilled meal for the evening, clients of YMOW also can look forward to special holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

“By providing meals for YMOW clients, Michigan Medicine’s Patient Food and Nutrition Services (PFANS) department will improve access to good tasting, attractive, nutritious meals that improve their health and well-being,” said Kit Werner, director of Patient Food and Nutrition Services at Michigan Medicine.

“Through this incredible partnership, we are able to increase our community services footprint when it comes to food insecurity. Meal deliveries also provide social contact to a vulnerable population. Through YMOW’s delivery of our nutritious and delicious meals, we minimize the effects of isolation, which may reduce the risk of depression in older adults,” Werner said.
