14 Medical School Faculty Named AAAS Fellows

The U-M led the nation with 22 faculty members — 14 from the Medical School — elected as 2019 fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Brian D. Athey, Ph.D., the Michael Savageau Collegiate Professor and chair of the Department of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics and professor of psychiatry and internal medicine 

David A. Bloom, M.D., the Jack Lapides Professor of Pediatric Urology and chair of the Department of Urology 

Susan V. Brooks, Ph.D., the Christin Carter-Su Collegiate Professor of Physiology and professor of biomedical engineering 

Vernon B. Carruthers, Ph.D., professor of microbiology and immunology 

Maria G. Castro, Ph.D., the R.C. Schneider Collegiate Professor, and professor of neurosurgery and of cell and developmental biology 

John Greden, M.D., the Rachel Upjohn Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, executive director of the U-M Depression Center, and research professor at the Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience Institute 

Kenneth M. Langa, M.D., Ph.D. (Residency 1997), the Cyrus Sturgis Research Professor of Internal Medicine, research professor with the Institute of Gerontology and the Institute for Social Research, and professor at the School of Public Health 

Jun Li, Ph.D., professor of human genetics and professor and associate chair for research of computational medicine and bioinformatics 

Suzanne M. Moenter (Ph.D. 1991), the Fred J. Karsch Collegiate Professor of Physiology, professor of molecular and integrative physiology, of obstetrics and gynecology, and of internal medicine, and research professor for the U-M Reproductive Sciences Program 

Linda C. Samuelson, Ph.D., the John A. Williams Collegiate Professor of Gastrointestinal Physiology and professor of molecular and integrative physiology and of internal medicine 

Emily E. Scott, Ph.D., professor of pharmacology at the Medical School, professor of medicinal chemistry at the College of Pharmacy, and professor of biophysics at LSA 

Michele S. Swanson, Ph.D., professor of microbiology and immunology and director of postdoctoral studies at the Medical School 

Shaomeng Wang, Ph.D., Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor of Medicine, professor of internal medicine and of pharmacology at the Medical School, and professor of medicinal chemistry at the College of Pharmacy
